Asian Longhorned Beetle has been found in southern Ohio.  It arrived from China when it hitched a ride on some wood crates. International commerce could bring it to Columbus in the future. It likes to feed on maples, but will attack all species of hardwoods.
Should we be worried?????   This beetle is a much slower mover than the Emerald Ash Borrer and it takes 5-8 years for it to kill a tree.
The beetle has been found in Chicago and New Jersey in the past and the local and federal government agencies were successful in eradicating it.
